The class is going to touch on topics ranging from how we mourn to how we celebrate - how we rage, how we cry, how we live. All incredibly relevant for the times we find ourselves in.

When the Second Temple fell in 70 CE, our sages decreed that we could no longer be joyful. Some ascetics took that prohibition to the extreme, while other arbiters encouraged balance, even in the wake of massive destruction. In this world, where we are witnesses to, complicit in, and sufferers of so much loss over such a sustained amount of time, how we mourn is critical to how live. Can we find a way to live our lives without forgetting the terrible events we must remember? Can we sustain ourselves without cycling into despair? Is there a time for extreme measures, where balance is insufficient? Uncover answers to these questions and more in a loving learning community with your queer Yeshiva, Shel Maala.

Despite the heaviness of the topic, we're sure the evening will be both grounding and inspiring, and replete with the particular joy of communal learning for justice. We can't wait to learn together!
